Peter Varga

Peter Varga is one of the most enthusiastic humans I've had the pleasure of meeting recently, which explains a lot about why he is so enthusiastic about other humans, Peter is the man behind Humans of Dublin, an ongoing project where Peter photographs and interviews the people he finds in and around the city of Dublin, his photographs and his interviews are hugely diverse, affecting and very reflective of real Dublin humans. The project was inspired by Brandon Stanton's hugely successful series 'Humans of New York'. Brandon is on record as saying he wanted it to be open and available to every city, He used to worry about copycat blogs and sites. Now he welcomes them, seeing it as a movement to encourage people to get to know their communities.

Peter Varga is absolutely the man build upon that movement, and very much the embodiment of passion for the community, having started the project in order to apply for a diploma course:

"It was my girlfriend who persuaded me to undertake the project. I was studying at the Institute of Photography at the time and didn't want to go in empty-handed. I had lots of experience dealing with people through various jobs, and had developed really good communication skills and learned how to engage in conversation better. I decided to amalgamate my passion for photography with these skills and my love of Dublin. From this, Humans of Dublin was born" - excerpt from an interview in Image Magazine

Now it seems Peter has his sights on continuing to turn a passion project into a life-long vocation, collaborating with creatives, charities, and anywhere he can find the new humans and their real life stories -  he has released a book of all his previous work, which you can get here - Humans Of Dublin
